We often hear people ask "Whatever happened to common sense?".

Thinking about common sense in the greyhound world one may ask - Why don’t “humane advocate protectors” and those who care about racing greyhounds get along? What happened to common sense?

In order to have common sense people must have something in common. While one might say greyhounds are what is in common, I disagree. “Humane advocate protectors” use greyhounds to lay the ground work for their true objectives - a world free of gambling, a world that is 100% vegan, a world where animals have the same legal rights as humans and perhaps most disturbing, a world free of any animals as pets.

Many “humane advocate protectors” have an effortless way to earn a living. You do realize your donations pay the salaries of “humane advocate protectors”, don't you?  How easy it is to use a greyhound to tug at the publics financial heartstrings so that they keep hitting that donate button allowing the “humane advocate protectors” to lobby and wine and dine whoever they need to in order to push their agenda and depriving greyhound adoption programs - the true individuals who help ex-racing greyhound find homes - of much needed financial support which truly is 100% for the greyhounds. 

To deny or reject what a greyhound is and their history is not something one does if they truly love the breed. 

Can the “humane advocate protectors” have common sense if they cannot love the greyhounds for what they are as well as what they have been? How can they claim to know what is best for greyhounds if they do not have hands on experience with all aspects of greyhounds? 

As with a good marriage or a good relationship, success comes from mutual love, mutual understanding and a mutual willingness for give and take in order to make things better for a common goal. That's simply common sense. But if one side looks only to destroy what exists or demand the other side to all things "their way", what sense does that make?

Perhaps if the “humane advocate protectors” made the effort to understand and love the greyhound, we would all have something in common.

“Ribbon Cutting Ceremony” in Dewey Beach for a child molester/sex offender?

On Sept 17^th 2018 the Honorable Senator Chris Coons of Delaware - the state where a convicted child molester runs an event in October for the past 3 years -  wrote the following to The Judiciary Committee requesting to delay a scheduled vote on a nomination for Supreme Court:

“I am deeply troubled by the assault allegations that have been made by Dr. Ford against Judge Kavanaugh. They should be taken seriously by everyone, irrespective of party and ideology. I would like to think that we are beyond the days when dismissing an accuser was an acceptable substitute for investigation and an evenhanded assessment of the facts. The Judiciary Committee should delay this week’s vote to ensure an opportunity for Dr. Ford’s allegations to be promptly investigated."

With that in statement, I would think that the mindset of all forms of Delaware officials - including the voting membership of the Rehoboth Beach–Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce - would be to delay any “Ribbon Cutting” ceremony for a new CoC member until the individual who is the "face" and president of the organization behind Greyhounds Reach the Beach is vetted, especially in light of the articles posted below.

If a delay due to allegations when an individual was a teenager are good enough for the Delaware Senator to request a delay, then holding off on recognizing someone who is actually a convicted child molester who performed 1st degree sexual assault while an adult and teacher would be a wise move.

Several years ago, a few individuals from the greyhound industry attended a conference that Wayne Pacelle (Leader of HSUS who recently resigned due to sexual harassment issues) was also in attendance. One of the industry members asked Wayne privately why they (HSUS and related Trickeration Nation) kept saying the number 50k killed, Wayne admitted it was a false number……. Trickeration nation will say anything!

What could be better.............

1 - They make it sound so wonderful yet failed to mention one vital fact, the event is organized by an individual who is a convicted child molester with life time requirement to register as a sex offender. 

You would think the board of directors of this adoption group would at least want to disclose that information to those who might be interested in attending and bringing women and children. 

Since they asked “What could be better?!” perhaps that this greyhound adoption group fess up that they embrace/support/volunteer for/accept donations from a convicted child molester and the adoption group president fronted for him at a town’s commission meeting in an attempt to secure a venue for the convicted child molester's upcoming October greyhound event – an event that this adoption group receives a donation from.

Is this adoption group so desperate for funds that they can turn a blind eye and encourage their members to register & attend an event run and owned by a convicted child molester?

2 – Please note – this adoption group is not a chapter of Greyhound Pets of America (GPA) yet they use an acronym to trick the public to think they are part of the real GPA.

Today from Trickeration Nation: Trying to deceive with shabby numbers……

Not long ago it was announced that 61 greyhound adoption programs stood with Vote No On 13.  It is estimated that the United States has a little under 300 greyhound adoption programs.

Did the “humane advocate protectors” get caught napping and suddenly forced to play a quick hand of trickeration as the number of groups supporting them was a fraction of that?

As one of the “humane advocate protector” organizations have two individuals on their board of directors who at a point in time taught at universities, we would hope they understand percentages.

With an estimated 2.4 million small businesses in the State of Florida, one wonders if a total of 57 local business joining Trickeration Nation is as about the same percentage as the amount this same “humane advocate protector” organizations donates to greyhound adoption from their total annual donation income?

Getting to know the "humane advocate protector" trickeration nation

Dear Confused Trickeration Nation follower:

You are probably suffering from what is commonly known as “lack of greyhound learning” and thus why you find yourself in such a state of confusion when it comes to anything greyhound related - welfare, advocacy, racing and lastly greyhound adoption.

When you fully research and learn about all aspects of greyhounds rather than swallow what you are force fed by the “humane advocate protectors” you would understand that they really could care less about greyhounds as each time they propose a bill or initiative under the guise of "protection" it is more about ending pari-mutuel wagering than it is about what happens to thousands of greyhounds if their trickeration is successful. 

You see the legislative actions spearheaded by “humane advocate protectors” always lack provisions for the proper placement, funding and care of those greyhounds who will be needing homes when their racing careers are forcibly ended by “humane advocate protectors”

Be confused no more! Stop blindly following the “humane advocate protectors”. 

If you truly love greyhounds, you should take the time to understand the cause and effect of being a member of the Trickeration Nation.

What they forgot to mention........

Did they mention the owner/organizer is a convicted child molester?

 

Apparently it is more important to the event organizer to ask  "Did we mention the wine thing?" than to mention that the individual who is the event owner/organizer is a convicted child molester with lifetime sex offender registration will be on site for the event. This fact should be brought to the attention of anyone registering an/or attending this individual's events in order for them to decide if this is an event they wish to be involved with.

Where in the world is W.W. Flicka?

****Update 4/14/2021 - See below for update****

As you can see in the above screen shots, this person claimed to be speaking on behalf of a greyhound named W.W. Flicka. This person is associated with an organization claiming to "protect dogs" in Florida.  Now I have to ask, if a person is claiming to be about protecting dogs and speaking for a particular dog, would not such a person do all they can to find a dog they admit they do not know the “whereabouts” of?

When I heard about this testimony my first thought was that something just didn't add up. Individuals and organizations want the public to think and vote the way they tell them regarding greyhound racing in Florida and yet, they do not know the current location and condition of W.W. Flicka, a greyhound they not only claim to speak for but that they use as a poster child against racing. Do they really not know or just lied during testimony?

With that in mind I set out to discover where in the world is W.W. Flicka.

I posed the question to someone in April 2018 and received an answer - W.W. Flicka is on the farm.

Ok...that was easy. 

In June 2018 I found myself in close proximity to the farm I was told that W.W. Flicka was at. I made a phone call and in less than 5 minutes I had the location verified. I then asked if I could visit and spend time with W.W. Flicka.

Without any hesitation the voice on the other end of the phone gave an enthusiastic "yes".

Ladies and gentleman, despite a particular person who claims to be speaking for W.W. Flicka, who stated for the record before the Florida Constitutional Committee that the whereabouts of W.W. Flicka was “unknown”, I am happy to report that W.W. Flicka whereabouts have never been unknown and all it took was asking one simple question.

W.W. Flicka is a happy, bouncy tiny girl who never stopped wagging her tail and giving kisses during my visit with her. Following are some photos of W.W. Flicka and myself taken by my wife who has granted me permission to reproduce the photos in this blog.  

So, the next time you are indoctrinated with rhetoric from those who seek to protect dogs by banning racing in addition to making no effort to back up claims of unknown locations, ask yourself, why was it easier for them to testify that W.W. Flicka's whereabouts were unknown when it was always known by those who truly care and love greyhounds. 

How is lying showing concern for the dogs? Why it's almost as if those who seek to destroy the greyhound industry wanted the public and the Florida Constitutional Committee to think that W.W. Flicka was missing...or worse.

Some questions that still remain -

1.  Why was Flicka removed from Florida jurisdiction and moved to a farm with little to no oversite from any racing regulators? 

2.  Why didn’t the industry itself disclose the whereabouts of Flicka as soon as Flicka's whereabouts were publicly questioned?

3. Why did a person "from parts unknown" need to locate and disclose the whereabouts?

Not a can of worms I would want opened in oral arguments or in depositions.

It has just been announced that a convicted child molester who must annually register as a lifetime sex offender has teamed up with a Hyatt brand hotel in Dewey Beach DE to hold an event in that hotel in October 2018. When Hyatt says they "care for the community" and that "everyone matters", it would seem by their action that this includes caring for child molesters/pedophiles and that their "sexual orientation" matters above those in the community who should morally and legally be protected from child molesters, pedophiles and sexual offenders.

Bravo Hyatt for taking that caring attitude and ensuring everyone matters including those who use sex to violate others. Perhaps now would be a good time for not only a rethink by Hyatt of their standards but also by the world community to rethink their support and patronage of Hyatt owned properties for trips and vacations.

FASTEN YOUR SEAT BELT CAUSE IT'S GONNA BE A BUMPY NIGHT!

Greyhound Nation, you are currently in a fight for survival. Some of you may not like what I’m about to say, but when has that ever stopped me from speaking up for what I believe in and the greyhounds I will forever stand up for.

If you truly wish to survive, stop doing the same old things. Realize this round is no longer in the legislative arena. The playing field is now in a state-wide campaign to destroy your livelihoods. The opposition is based on a value structure of hate and propaganda and manipulating the facts. Your first step must be to act professionally. No more stupidity on social media. No swearing. No duck faces. If you want to be taken seriously, act like it.

A leader needs to rise to the top and take charge. Without guidance, a plan, vision and/or a clear mission, the Greyhound Nation is running amok. A leader needs to put together an experienced team that can manage the message and keep all up to date in a timely fashion. Can we afford to have our message be presented as if we are coyotes scratching fleas? We need individuals that present themselves as professional, accurate and knowledgeable members of our cause.

I call on the National Greyhound Association to step up and save the Greyhound Nation and bring aboard a leader to lead us against the evils that want to destroy greyhound racing.

This is not a state legislative issue, it is currently a state-wide campaign, it is an issue that affect every state with greyhound racing and greyhound farms. And no matter what side of the issue you take, it is also an issue that will impact greyhound adoption organizations.

We CAN do this. Let the nation see who has real values built on honesty, integrity and let them see that those opposing greyhound racing have values based on hate, manipulation and political deals.

We need to remove the "me" and "I" from the landscape and look to a leader that can guide us as one.

You can fool yourself. You can cheat until you are blind. It not only can happen, it IS happening. We can change the future if we reach for survival with a strong, honest and forceful leader and save Greyhound Nation.

Would you treat your dog this way?

In their newest hunt to destroy all and sundry regarding the racing greyhound, a “humane advocate protector” organization recently stated they will ask the Florida voters one simple question “Would you treat your dog this way?

What if the Florida voters learned that this same organization has a board member who was accused of “abusing” greyhounds several years ago? Does the “humane advocate protector” leadership and fellow board members fully vet anyone associated with the organization?

Several years ago, several people witnessed what at the time they called greyhound abuse by the head of an adoption program. At some point, after the adoption program head met privately with the witnesses, several backed out of the claim but it is my understanding no disinterested party could investigate the charges. The person and several witnesses quickly left an organization that would have investigated the charges and made factual determination if greyhound abuse had taken place.

While an investigation was not able to be conducted due to the principal’s departure from the organization, just knowing that action was witnessed and reported makes one wonder if the “humane advocate protector” organization has the right to ask anyone “Would you treat your dog this way?” when one of their board members may have done exactly what the “humane advocate protectors" often pillory greyhound trainers for doing?

We will never have the true facts from all involved in the situation but based on their previous actions, if this was someone on the greyhound racing side the “humane advocate protectors” would be running to every media outlet with the story regardless of documented facts and asking, “Would you treat your dog this way?” 

So how would you treat your pet dog(s) in an extreme situation if their safety was at risk?

Race fixing or “humane advocate protector” urine fixing? Part II

Someone recently ran a back-ground check on an individual who currently represents the “humane advocate protectors” organization as a lobbyist in State of Florida. This individual was at one time in charge of the department that oversaw greyhound racing in the State of Florida and would have hired many of those who currently oversee greyhound racing or very least be on very friendly terms with many in the department.

For disclosure, I did not run the report, nor did I ask for it to be run. The report has been shared with me in full. I will share one very disturbing part of this report:

Even more disturbing that the organization pushing a ban on greyhound racing in the State of Florida may have hired an individual with a crack cocaine problem to lobby for them as they focus on negligible amounts of substances in a very small number of drug tests of racing greyhounds.

Florida voters need to ask themselves, is this the type of organization we want asking us if this is how we would treat our dogs and pushing a major change to the States constitution?

Race fixing or “humane advocate protector” urine fixing?

Several articles have quoted a “humane advocate protector” with statements such as this with regards to the drug testing results of a few greyhound in Florida over the past months:

" the most likely scenarios are someone trying to fix races,”

I want to go on the record and ask if it is as the “humane advocate protector” wants to imply - that someone purposely gave greyhounds cocaine for race fixing - or did someone purposely fix the drug test? If test results say no K9 DNA present in the urine, whose urine, was it?

Yes, I realize that the result may be due to degraded sample, but if the “humane advocate protectors” are allowed to speculate with no actual testing data or facts showing that “race fixing” was even remotely possible, I will speculate with an actual test result and leave the readers with this question – did someone who wants to push a constitutional amendment to ban greyhound racing in the State of Florida fix the results of the drug test with his/her own urine or that of a paid activist?

The 2013 challenge for "humane advocate protectors" that they have remained silent on.....

In June and August of 2013 I posted a couple of blogs, one titled Greyhound-Gate and the second titled Got-some-splainin-to-do. It is now 2018 and should note, the “humane advocate protectors” have remained silent regarding these serious issues. Why is it they do not want to discuss these items?

I for one believe the greyhounds and humans involved in greyhound racing, greyhound adoption, greyhound welfare and greyhound advocacy deserve and should always be treated with and doing business with integrity and honesty.

It is my opinion since the “humane advocate protectors” have not addressed these serious issues, honesty and integrity is something they do not believe applies to themselves!

Legacy……….

On January 4, Mr. Bruce Halle, founder of Discount Tire passed away. I had the privilege of working on a Discount Tire project a few years ago.  Two things were very obvious my first week on the contract.  When a customer called for help, you did whatever it took to take care of it and worked the problem through till resolution was complete. Corporate headquarters did not let those at the stores hang. Another refreshing observation was the friendliness found in the Discount Tire workplace. It was almost like everyone was family

Now remember I was not an employee of Discount Tire. During my time there I was just a faceless contractor hired to assist with an SAP implementation. One afternoon on my way back from lunch, I noticed an older gentleman walking towards the door I had just entered. I went back and I held the door open for the elderly gentleman. The gentleman looked at my badge and said "thank you, Rory". When I mentioned it to co-workers they remarked, oh you just met Mr. Halle. From that point on during the project, anytime Mr. Halle saw me he always greeted me by name. The founder set the standard for courtesy at Discount Tire.

During my time at Discount Tire, a local fellow greyhound adopter needed new tires. She had her greyhound with her when she dropped her car off at Discount Tire. It was during the summer months and for those of you who may not know, here in the valley of the sun temps are often over 100 degrees and it gets very toasty in a vehicle. Later that afternoon when she picked up her car, she did not see it in the Discount Tire parking lot.  Asking where her car was, the Discount Tire technician told her that the car was in another lot parked under a tree so it would be shaded and kept cooler for her greyhound. That is what Discount Tire employees do. They care about their customers.

Courtesy. Caring. Consideration. Doing your job well. Mr. Halle lived that from the day he started Discount Tire with very little money and 6 tires till the day he passed way as a 5-time billionaire. That is a legacy that is passed down from Mr. Halle to many who had the privilege to meet him or work for Discount Tire. 

Be nice, treat others as you would want to be treated and take care of customers. You do that and you will be successful.

We each need to ask ourselves - What will my legacy be? Will it be all about me? Or should we strive to be sure our legacy is what we have taught others and shown to others so that they can pass along kindness and service to others?
